The Times They Are A Changin’
So sang Bob Dylan in the ’60′s. Could we have possibly known back then, as we raised our fingers in the peace sign, how much we would be affected? How quickly things would really change as we approached our senior years? Those changing times back when seem somewhat trite and silly compared to the changes we are seeing today.
How do you survive in these troubled times? As we are no longer in an agricultural society, urban survival is becoming an important topic for many people. Unemployment continues to rise and the power of the dollar goes down daily. Countless people have watched as their retirement savings have all but disappeared. Social security will probably be of little help to us, even though we are told otherwise. What is a person, or a family to do to prepare for the future?
And what about emergencies? Whether they are personal, like getting sick, or communal, like an earthquake, being prepared may be the difference in whether or not you survive. The resources we take for granted to care for us may not be there in a disaster situation. Knowing what to do and how to do it is also an important aspect of urban survival.
Taking care of yourself is the answer and this website is here to help you become more self-reliant. The daily news and what you find on the Internet are alarming. Being frightened is not a solution. We all need to develop new skills and to make preparations for the future. We need to let go of plans that rely on public agencies or large corporations that really won’t be there. Or may come at costs that by conscious we are unwilling or unable to pay.
There will be resources here to help you find a better job or a source of additional income. Even information to learn how to become self-employed. This site will help you grow your own food, repair your home, and find cheaper ways to clothe and entertain your family.
My family and I live in an urban area, and our lot is fairly large, but we came from the Bay Area in California and we used many of the methods that we will share here when we lived on a much smaller plot. The idea is to make use of what you have and do the best with the resources that are available.
- The direction that our country is headed should make us all stop and consider, where do we really want to go? How much help do we need from the government? Taking the information you find here will help you improve your life and make you better able to care for all of your needs. This country was founded on the principles of self-preservation, self-determination and independence. Returning to those ideals will make us stronger as a people and stonger as a country.
